SDI Productions was set up in 2007 as the production arm of the Scottish Documentary Institute. They are one of the leading independent companies for creative documentary in the UK and have an international outlook for subjects, talent and partners. They love developing new talent and expanding their vision and reach, while exploring the language of filmmaking. Their films have screened in over 80 countries worldwide, winning numerous awards.

Most recently they launched Time Trial by Finlay Pretsell in Main Competition at IDFA 2017, a film with Scottish road cyclist David Millar and Becoming Animal co-directed by Emma Davie & Peter Mettler, in competition at CPH:DOX. In 2017 Donkeyote, by Chico Pereira in co-production with Sutor Kolonko (Germany), started its festival life in Big Screen Competition at Rotterdam and has scooped multiple awards since, including Best Feature Doc at EIFF 2017. Seven Songs for a Long Life, a BBC and YLE commission by Amy Hardie launched at SxSW and on PBS in USA in 2016. They produced the fiction feature Norfolk by Martin Radich, an iFeatures (BFI/BBC Films, Creative England), world premiere in competition at Rotterdam 2015.
