Gareth Hydes will discuss his commissioning brief and how indies should consider new and innovative ways to engage audiences. He will also provide insight into the processes involved in preparing and submitting pitches, attaching on-screen and off-screen talent and the various tariffs. With his extensive experience of working with indies, he’ll discuss the dos and don’ts when looking to secure a commission and best practice when it comes to collaborating and developing concepts, from the idea to production.

About Gareth Hydes

Gareth is editorially responsible for BBC Radio Scotland and commissions and schedules all content for the station. Gareth also commissions the wider music and events portfolio across BBC Scotland.

Gareth spent his early career in radio working across a range of areas but notably in Topical, Events and Entertainment programming. He went on to develop content across BBC programme brands and platforms for Children in Need, in his role as Director of Content for the BBC’s Charity. Notable programmes included The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Radio 2, The One Show Rickshaw Challenge, Countryfile Ramble, Children in Need Rocks, and DiY SOS – The Big Build for Children in Need.

Gareth re-joined BBC Scotland as BBC Commissioner Radio & Events in January 2018.
