Alexandra Finlay is an international scripted consultant and Executive Producer with over 25 years’ experience spanning public service and commercial broadcast, independent production and global media companies. She specialises in premium drama development, international co-production strategy and market positioning, helping screenwriters and producers nurture projects to maximise global appeal and buyer traction.
Recent collaborations included leading a room of diverse writers to develop one-hour thrillers for ITV network; supporting the Apollo Series program for European producers in partnership with the Seriesmania Institute; and project- and slate-based creative and strategic consulting for producers and screenwriters in the UK and internationally.
Her specialty is TV but she has also collaborated on feature film developments.
She was previously VP, International Scripted Co-Pros at A+E Global Media where she identified premium English-language drama opportunities with global appeal, overseeing the development and distribution pipelines. Before that she was VP Creative and Co-Productions at Shaftesbury, where she built and delivered an internationally-focused scripted slate. .
Before pivoting into development and distribution, Alex was a UK network buyer. As Head of Acquisitions and Co-Productions at UKTV, she was a key contributor to the network's market-beating growth, devising and implementing highly effective programming and acquisition strategies. She drove commercial relationships with the US studios and led high level negotiations to deliver award-winning scripted acquisitions and distinctive first-run IP through pre-sales and coproductions with UK and global partners.
She started her career as a production assistant and programme executive at the BBC before joining Channel 4 Television where as Feature Film Editor she acquired and programmed output across C4, More4 and E4.A graduate of the National Film and Television School's prestigious Script Development Diploma, her credits include international procedural hit Murdoch Mysteries (CBC / UKTV / ITVGS), The Sounds (CBC / Acorn / All3Media), Dead Still (Rogers / RTE / ZDF Studios), SisterS (Crave / AMC / Fremantle), and The Kollective (France TV, RAI, ZDF).
Alex has served as a BAFTA, Royal Television Society, C21 Drama Awards and Asian Creative Academy awards juror and has mentored independently and for organisations including Screenskills, WFTV and EAST. She holds dual British / Canadian nationality.
